October: (optional extended season)
Winter squash, potatoes, carrots, beets, salad greens, cooking greens, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower*, radishes, sometimes beans and sweet corn, turnips, sometimes tomatoes and peppers, herbs.
Availability of any vegetable is variable. Some years certain vegetables just won’t produce for us and shareholders will likely not get any at all. Fortunately these vary year to year. Veggies with an * are variable availability and timing, depending on weather conditions and other factors.
Salad greens includes lettuces, endive, spinach, arugula and other baby greens commonly found in mesclun or field greens mixtures. These will vary throughout the season and will sometimes be just lettuce. Head lettuces such as romaine, butterhead and crisp head are available at different times of the season.
Greens for cooking include some of the same variety greens used in salads, only more mature, plus some traditional cooking greens: swiss chard, kale, mustards, turnips, collards, etc., plus some Asian greens such as bok choy and possibly other less familiar greens in some seasons. Recipes will be supplied so we hope you will try them.
If you will want any vegetables in quantity for preserving please let us know as early as possible. These may be pick-your -own. Please do not tell us you will want a bushel of beans or tomatoes unless you really plan to get them, so that we don’t plant more than can be picked and included in shares.
